Job opening: Arabic/Somali speaking Research Assistant for Qualitative Research on Migrant Integration
Join a collaborative team of PhDs, Postdocs, academic researchers and practitioners working on a research project Trust-M – creating trustworthy services for migrants in Finland – supported by the Strategic Research Council (2022-2028). The project, conducted between Aalto University, University of Helsinki, Tampere University and the City of Espoo, is seeking to conceptualize trust and create new or improve existing public services for migrants.
The candidate will work at the intersection of design research, social sciences, and policy for migrant integration. While expertise in these fields is not necessary, we expect applicants to have experience or strong interest in qualitative methods, participatory design, or working with social issues in the Finnish context. Potential duties and tasks include interviews, facilitating workshops, analysing qualitative data, and logistical and administrative work. The candidate will also be provided with the opportunity to define their own specific research interests and plan within the project and working group.
The field work will be conducted in close collaboration with the City of Espoo stakeholders, as well as different NGOs working with migrants. Since we aim to reach certain migrant communities in Espoo, strong proficiency in Arabic or Somali language is mandatory for this role.
Duration: 4-6 months (15-20 hours per week based on applicants availability)
Starting date: As soon as possible, April onwards would be desirable
Language requirements: Excellent spoken Arabic or Somali (written skills are a plus); good spoken and written English
Pay scale: As per Aalto Department of Computer Science guidelines, €2000-2450 is expected for full time workers (depends on the study points). Note that this job is not full time!
Location: Aalto University Otaniemi campus, with the possibility of working remotely.
Possibility to extend the role as a Master’s thesis candidate.
